Hi, I’m April. I’m so glad you’re here.

A little about me:

I am an avid reader and a student of words and people. I like wandering through independent bookstores and practicing mindfulness and gratitude through long walks and yoga videos. I love spending time cultivating creativity with anything from crayons and giant sheets of paper to cooking through a library cookbook. I also show up in the world as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. My love for my people and desire to do my part to bring healing to the world fuels my career in this work.

Along with my work as a Marriage and Family Therapist, my background includes years in women’s ministry, freelance writing, and working from home with young children. Through the years, I have enjoyed continuously learning and sharing about good books and good food, the Enneagram and the intersection of emotional health and spirituality, particularly amidst relationships. In my free time, you’ll find me curled up with a good novel, sending video messages back and forth to my hilarious friends, trying a new restaurant or coffee shop in my cute town, laughing with my book club, experimenting with new recipes in my kitchen, or riding bikes and playing Uno with my husband and children, preferably on Lake Michigan or PNW shore.

A little about my work:

In my work as a therapist, I believe the experience of being a human and living a wholehearted life is really hard, even on the good days. I also believe as human beings, we are wired for connection and want to heal. Whether circumstances or upbringing, transition or trauma, curiosity or debilitating anxiety brought you here, I believe your unique and brave healing journey has already begun - simply because you are seeking help. Therapeutic healing can be a beacon of light on a dark or sometimes just confusing path. I want to help you find the light for your path, just the step you’re on. And I love that our brains can change and heal.

I believe we were created for relationship and that the work toward building healthy relationships is worth the struggle, including and especially a healthy relationship with yourself. I am passionate about wholehearted living and committed to doing that work first myself and then using those principles to invite others on the journey with me. With this, I also use a systemic approach, a focus on attachment and self-compassion, and I believe deeply in incorporating mind, body, and spirit in our work. I strive to create safe spaces for my clients to show up with their whole stories and experience healing and find full life.

In my office, I strive to create safe spaces for my clients to vulnerably tell their truth and feel supported and encouraged as they unpack their stories and pain. The stories we tell ourselves matter, the way we treat ourselves matters, and the relationship we have with ourselves affects every relationship along the way. My goal is to help you learn to relate compassionately to yourself and your story so that you can cultivate the relationships and life you desire. I do this through leaning into emotions, helping you mine them for their needs, noticing your patterns, and offering you safety to examine them in a nonjudgmental space.

I specialize in working with individuals and couples. I help people understand the impact their unique story had on their lives. I then help with finding compassion and healing within to be able to show up as a fully functional adult rather than held captive by our pasts. My trainings equip me to help you understand your story and patterns in a new, compassionate light, reparent yourself within, and then reinforce those new patterns to change your life and relationships moving forward. There is so much compassion available for wherever you are on your journey - whether you are in crisis or just kind of stuck - and I want to offer that compassion to you and help you offer it to yourself as well.

I particularly love working with parents who are in the active-duty stage of parenting while also wanting to reparent the child within themselves. Because reparenting the child within you while parenting the child in front of you is one of the hardest parts of motherhood you never knew existed, I believe it deserves extra support, and you don’t have to do it alone.

I also love working with developmental trauma, couples in active parenting roles, spiritual trauma and doubt, setting up the size and style of life that fits your most authentic self, how being a highly sensitive person affects your life, and cultivating or maintaining safety and meaningful connection in your most important relationships. I also want to help you make space not just for processing the trauma and navigating the triggers but also for developing space in your life for delight again. You and your life are worth flourishing.

I believe therapy is a gift that we all deserve and also a way we can love ourselves and our loved ones best. You are worth it. Let me know if I can help.
