Mark Burge: BA, CLP
Clinic Director, LENS Certified Provider
Mark is a gifted educator and has spent over a decade inspiring, teaching and training others to realize their full potential, in professional and avocational settings. This passion to help others led him into the world of LENS, as a way to bring about lasting change for those in need. His analytical approach to providing LENS assures that the highest level of success is garnered during each session of LENS.
Currently, Mark and Julie live in Spring Hill, Tennessee with their youngest daughter
(10yo) and around the corner from their oldest daughter, who is married and mother of three of their grandchildren. Mark enjoys his work with clients and wants to be a conduit of growth and healing for them. When he’s not at the office, he enjoys renovating and creating custom craftsmanship in homes in the area, building and customizing podcast and/or recording studios, long motorcycle rides with his buddies, playing the piano and laying on a beach somewhere with Julie and his family.
“Healing is not so much about ‘getting better’ as it is about
letting go of EVERYTHING that isn’t you -
all of the expectations, beliefs, and the conditioning & negative tapes -
& becoming who you were created to be!”
The quote above expresses my philosophy about the purpose and the value of therapy. Therapy is simply the process by which we examine and explore the beliefs and expectations that we hold, that are often shaped by our conditioning and negative experiences. As we challenge them in therapy, we allow ourselves to decide if these beliefs are serving us well. If not, we are allowed to change our minds, make new decisions and learn from the stories of our past. I firmly believe that when we choose to heal, we are choosing to become our best selves by beginning to take steps to lay aside all of the internal messages, expectations and beliefs that we have learned to embrace over the years. As we heal, we become more and more free to create the life we WANT, and were created to live.
All too often, clients come to me suffering from symptoms of anxiety, depression or loss of joy in their lives. Discovering the root cause of their challenges is important. As we put together the pieces of their stories, I often find that developmental trauma or attachment issues have played a significant role in creating symptoms. This can occur either as a single event or multiple times throughout childhood. As we understand how the trauma or dysfunctional attachment occurred, it helps us determine their path and collaborate on the steps needed for healing and recovery.
My approach to healing is client centered around a holistic perspective, as I consider all that is going on with my client from stressors to difficulty in relationships to issues with sleep. When I work with a client, I believe that you are basically handing me a “giant spoon so that I can stir the pot” for you, emotionally speaking. We work through the things that come up for you and discover the origins of it so that you can heal and then explore solutions so you can thrive. I also encourage self-care through a variety of modalities, so that you recover fully in mind, body and spirit.
